  • Through many prototypes we settled on a recycled polyester near micro fiber yarn then developed a short loop, grid-pattern knit construction. We found that this design absorbs water well but dries up to 30% faster than comparable models with longer loops based on controlled tests we have run, data is available on request. Micro fiber towels have similar issues to cotton towels; if you don’t dry them bacteria will thrive unless there is some kind of treatment. Hiking or outdoor travelling means complete drying may not be possible; anti-bacterial odour management treatments are essential.
  • Choosing an ant-bacterial treatment was not easy; we discovered environmental hazards or durability issues with many of the available treatments. Most micro fiber towels with antimicrobial treatments contain biocides which present significant environmental health hazards; we ruled these out for Innate. We then looked at a number of flora and fauna based treatments such as bamboo, crab shells or coconut husks; our field and wash testing indicated that these treatments could not stand up to the demands of outdoor travellers. We nearly gave up and were about to recommend thorough drying between uses, which is just not very real world, when we became aware of a significantly less impactful treatment called silpure from a Canadian company. This silver ion treatment provides a stable bond to the yarn which significantly reduces the potential for environmental issues caused by silver being released into wastewater during laundering. The end result of all this development is a comfortable, quick drying lightweight, towel that you’ll use on sweaty uphill hikes and for drying off after a swim or shower.
